What to Expect After Blowing Out Your Soy Candle
When you blow out your soy candle, a few natural things will happen as it cools and resets for its next burn. Here’s what to look for:
1. A Soft Glow and Gentle Smoke
- Right after blowing out the flame, you may see a thin wisp of smoke rise from the wick. This is completely normal and disappears within seconds.
- Some wicks might continue to smolder slightly before fully extinguishing.
2. Wax Cooling and Solidifying
- The melted wax pool will begin to cool and turn from a glossy liquid back into a solid.
- This process usually takes 30-60 minutes, depending on room temperature and candle size.
- As it cools, you may notice a slight change in texture, sometimes forming a natural frosted or matte appearance—this is a signature trait of soy wax.
3. Possible Wax Craters or Unevenness
- If the candle is burned for a long time, the wax pool might show some slight dimpling or an uneven surface as it hardens.
- This is normal and doesn’t affect how the candle burns next time.
4. Wick Appearance
- The wick may have a slight mushrooming effect, where a small carbon buildup forms at the tip. This is a sign that the wick has properly burned and can be trimmed before the next use.
- If the wick leans slightly, it should correct itself when relit.
5. Lingering Scent
- Even after the flame is out, you may notice a gentle lingering scent in the air for a little while. This is because the wax and wick continue to release fragrance as they cool.
How to Care for Your Candle After Extinguishing
- Trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before the next burn to maintain an even flame and prevent excessive soot.
- Allow the wax to fully harden before moving the candle to prevent spills or uneven cooling.
- Store your candle in a cool, dry place to keep it in perfect condition for its next use.
